Amazon Prime customers in the United States may be running out of time to claim a refund from the company’s $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. Eligible consumers must submit their claim by Monday, July 27, 2026, according to the official settlement information.

Approved claimants can receive reimbursement for Prime membership charges, with individual payments capped at $51. The claims process is intended for customers who were unintentionally enrolled in Prime or experienced difficulty canceling their subscription during the covered period.

Amazon already issued automatic refunds to some eligible customers in November and December 2025. However, customers who did not receive an automatic payment may still be able to submit a claim before the approaching deadline.

Why Is Amazon Paying $2.5 Billion?

The settlement stems from an FTC lawsuit accusing Amazon of using subscription enrollment designs that allegedly caused some customers to join Prime without providing clear and informed consent.

The regulator also alleged that Amazon made it unnecessarily difficult for customers to cancel their memberships. The cancellation process reportedly required consumers to navigate multiple screens, prompts, and offers before they could complete their cancellation.

Amazon agreed to resolve the case through a $2.5 billion settlement, consisting of:

  • $1.5 billion for eligible consumer refunds
  • $1 billion as a civil penalty

Amazon did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement. However, the agreement requires the company to provide clearer subscription disclosures, obtain proper consent before enrollment, and offer a more straightforward cancellation process.

Who May Qualify for the Amazon Prime Refund?

Eligibility is not based simply on whether someone currently has an Amazon Prime membership. Former Prime members may also qualify if they meet the settlement conditions.

The claims process generally covers eligible US consumers affected between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.

A customer may be eligible to file a claim if either of the following situations applies:

  • The customer unintentionally enrolled in Amazon Prime through one of the covered enrollment processes.
  • The customer attempted to cancel Prime through Amazon’s online cancellation system but was unable to complete the process.

Additional conditions may apply when the claim is reviewed. The amount paid will depend on the Prime membership fees charged during the applicable period and cannot exceed $51.

The settlement is primarily for Amazon.com customers in the United States. A Prime membership purchased through Amazon India or another international Amazon platform does not automatically qualify.

Some Customers Already Received Automatic Refunds

Amazon distributed automatic payments to an initial group of eligible consumers in November and December 2025.

Those payments were generally sent through digital payment services or mailed checks, depending on the account information available. Customers who successfully received an automatic settlement payment normally cannot receive a second payment for the same membership charges.

The current claims process is mainly for potentially eligible consumers who did not receive an automatic refund.

Customers should review their emails, payment accounts, and previous mail before filing to confirm that a payment has not already been issued.

How to Submit an Amazon Prime Settlement Claim

Consumers can submit their claim through the official Amazon Prime settlement website at SubscriptionMembershipSettlement.com.

Some eligible customers received an email or mailed notice containing a unique Claim ID and PIN. These details can be entered on the claim page to access a pre-identified claim.

A person who did not receive or cannot locate a Claim ID may still select the option to file without one. The claimant will need to provide identifying information and details associated with the relevant Amazon account.

The form requires consumers to confirm that they were unintentionally enrolled in Prime or unsuccessfully attempted to cancel their subscription.

Documentation is not necessarily required at the initial filing stage, but every claim is subject to verification. Providing inaccurate information may result in the claim being rejected.

What Is the Final Claim Deadline?

The claim form must be submitted online or postmarked by July 27, 2026.

Consumers should avoid waiting until the final hours because technical problems, missing account details, or errors in the form could prevent a successful submission.

A submitted claim does not guarantee payment. Amazon or the settlement administrator will review the information to determine whether the claimant meets the eligibility requirements.

When Will Approved Customers Receive Payment?

The FTC says Amazon expects to issue payments from the claims process in late 2026. An exact payment or mailing date has not yet been announced.

Approved consumers may be offered one or more payment methods, such as PayPal, Venmo or a mailed check. Available methods can depend on the information entered during the claim process.

The final payment may be less than $51. Compensation is based on qualifying Prime membership fees paid during the covered period, subject to the maximum settlement limit.

Watch Out for Amazon Settlement Scams

Major consumer settlements frequently attract fraudulent emails, advertisements, and social media posts. Scammers may impersonate Amazon, the FTC or the settlement administrator and ask consumers to pay a fee or disclose sensitive financial information.

Eligible customers do not have to pay an application, processing, or release fee to receive a legitimate settlement refund.

Consumers should avoid clicking links in unsolicited messages. They should enter the official settlement website address directly into their browser and carefully check the domain before submitting any information.

The FTC does not require consumers to provide gift cards, cryptocurrency payments, or money transfers to receive a refund.

What Amazon Prime Customers Should Do Now

US customers who believe they were enrolled in Prime without intending to subscribe, or who unsuccessfully tried to cancel during the covered period, should review the eligibility requirements before the deadline.

Those who already received an automatic refund should not file a duplicate claim. Customers who remain eligible should complete the official form by Monday, July 27, 2026, and retain a copy or confirmation number for their records.

Payments are not expected immediately after filing. Approved claims are currently expected to be paid later in 2026 after the review process is completed.
