A better method would involve the encoding of the mathematics using an XML-based scripting language such as MathML.
This would allow for the presentation to be decoupled from the semantic meaning in whatever method best fit the student's need.
For example, dynamic content would allow for finer-grain navigation and the ability to listen to "summaries" of the math beforehand.
Descriptions of the math could also be automatically generated.
