Authoring of the Image Descriptions is time-consuming and complicated.
Descriptive content is static and served in a one-size-fits-all format, which may not be appropriate for every student.
As images, visual presentation options such as zoom and contrast control are limited. Both publishers and students have little control over the final presentation which is fixed.
In sum, the semantic meaning is not successfully decoupled from the visual presentation, as is the goal of the NIMAS specification.
