SPECIAL ISSUE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND DISABILITIES
CASTING YOUR BALLOT: ACCESS TO VOTING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
In past years, ITD has assembled “special issues” devoted to a single focused topic. In recognition of the upcoming 2004 U.S. presidential election, Information Technology and Disabilities invites articles for a special issue to examine access to voting and voting technology for persons with disabilities. This special issue will come out in late October or early November of 2004, immediately before the election.
Some possible issues for consideration may include:
- The genesis and current implementation of the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA)
- Progress reports on specific state implementations of HAVA
- An analysis of HAVA related accessible voting state laws
- The application of the ADA and Section 504 to accessible voting issues
- An overview of voting technologies with an emphasis on accessibility
- In-depth explanations or reviews of specific new accessible voting technologies
- An analysis of legal rulings on access to voting issues
- Case studies on the barriers to voting access, and ways to increase voting participation by people with disabilities trough the use of accessible voting technologies
In the past, ITD has “co-published” several special-theme issues with another print journal. We will be pursuing the identification of an appropriate print-based professional journal to partner with us in this exciting special issue, and hope to continue our tradition of print co-publication in order to disseminate this important information to the widest possible audience.
Authors considering contributions to this issue should first contact the guest editor with ideas. Invited authors will then be asked to send an abstract of the proposed article in advance of the full submission. All articles published in ITD are peer reviewed, and are subject to possible revision based upon peer review comments. The abstract should be received by April 15, 2004. The initial full article draft must be submitted by August 15, 2004. Authors will be given an opportunity to update and revise the article based upon peer review comments before final publication.
