U.S. Access Board
From 1984, to 1992 Mr. Wakefield ran his own company,
Talking Computers, Inc. That specialized in developing training
materials to teach people with disabilities how to operate computers
using assistive technology.
During this same period, Mr. Wakefield served as
an Accessibility Consultant to the State of Virginia. He also
provided consulting service focusing on information access for
people with disabilities to several Federal agencies.
In 1992, Mr. Wakefield joined the staff of the Center
for IT Accommodation at the General Services Administration.
In his role at GSA he provided a variety of information
access related services to Federal managers and employees.
In 1998, Mr. Wakefield moved to the U.S. Access Board
where he serves as the Access Specialist for access to telecommunications,
and is the lead staff person at the Board developing the standards
to implement Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
