- Authoring of the Image Descriptions is time-consuming and complicated.
- Descriptive content is static and served in a one-size-fits-all format, which may not be appropriate for every student.
- As images, visual presentation options such as zoom and contrast control are limited. Both publishers and students have little control over the final presentation which is fixed.
- In sum, the semantic meaning is not successfully decoupled from the visual presentation, as is the goal of the NIMAS specification.
