Hi , Norm , hi , everybody .  Well, as Norm said , I'm Marisol , Miranda and I want to welcome you all here to this webinar , on YouTube , all you wanted to see and more . 

  First I want to advice you that I'm not a very good multi task err , so , I'm not going to look to the text chat as often as I would like to .  So , please keep all the questions at the end of the webinar , or I can make pauses , to be focused on what I have to . 

  Another thing is that I am going to go to some web sites , outside of , well, we are , they're going to be seen in this browser , but I'm going to go out and maybe , you will get some kind of message that says debug .  Please say no .  You don't have to debug anything . 

  And , during , well, all along , all these webinars that I've been with Norm , sometimes I have people complaining about the audio .  And I said to them , private message, telling them that they should go to file , and drop packages .  This will fix all the trouble , audio that you can have . 

  So , I'm not going to be able to do that in private now .  So that's why I'm telling you . 

  So , let's start .  The first thing is , what are we going to cover ? 

  Okay .  The first thing is going to be what is YouTube ?  I know we all know what YouTube is , but , how , then beings how to up load a video to YouTube , but how to make it accessible .  Next we're going to see some of the accessibility issues that this web site has , and we are , during the presentation , we are going to give you some ideas and tools to overcome them . 

  I'm also going to show you what I've considered the easiest way to caption videos , and this is from YouTube . 

  Also , you're going to look at two accessible interfaces for searching videos , in YouTube , and finally , we're going to talk a little about what the YouTube channel , and of course , the channel that easy is creating for all of you . 

  Okay .  What is YouTube ?  We all know that it's a a place where we can find tons of videos on different topics .  For some , YouTube has turned out to be a place to let people know about their personal opinions , preferences and concerns .  It is also new medium of , for political can .  And it has become an excellent learning space where we can find all kind of educational videos . 

  This is why it is social media re {e} sewersaccessory source . 

  We can access or up load videos with our computers , I phones , Blackberries and all kind of mobile devices , this is why it is become canning more and more popular every day . 

  And I don't know if you know this , I just knew {ut} a couple of days ago , but , 23 hours of video are up loaded to YouTube every minute . 

  Some of the accessibility issues on that we can find in YouTube are that , it has so many videos that sometimes it's difficult to select which one we need . 

  Another combination is that sometimes we see a a video and when we want to look at it again , a few days later , again , we can't find it . 

  Also , if these are reliable video can or it is not .  All these things can be can complicated for someone with attention deficit or learning or cognitive disabilities , but even with no disabilities , I got lost many times in YouTube . 

  For those who are deaf , you know , they add one more thing to the basket , another problem .  {e} They can't hear what it takes , so they need captions . 

  Those who are blind can listen to the add I don't , but because many of these videos have a lack of description , it's hard for them to understand the content . 

  We recommend that the speaker , in those videos talk enough about what the content is , and then this will be helpful for everybody .  And the video would be so descriptive that we don't have to work later on , in adding extended descriptions and you know, all that kind of stuff to make it accessible for those who are blind . 

  The best formats for up load oning videos to YouTube are M P four , W M V , M O V , M P G , and they don't have to be longer than ten minutes .  And not larger than two gigabytes size . 

  What we do have to do on first , is we have to create an account .  And after we create it , we log in , and we will be taken here on . 

  As you can see , we have new button that says up load video , right there .  And we can hear , or connect our account , we are not working .  Okay . 

 Okay .  Sorry .  I thought something about the captions and the volume . 

  Okay .  Here , we can connect our face book , Twitter or Google reader account , in case we have one .  So in the moment that our video is {*UP} loaded , YouTube will will inform all of our contacts in these three other social media , that they have video there , from you to them . 

  Sorry .  Of course , you have to up load the video from your hard drive .  I skipped that . 

  While the video is uploading , you will see the progress bar , right there , and , you will see also the form , where you have to add all the , all the descriptions and you know, add the title for the video .  Something on meaningful that reflects the content of what's in the video .  Because , remember that's what the screen reader is going to read to its user . 

  Okay .  You have there a place for the description .  And also , for the text .  But what are tags ? 

  They are all those possible words that you can think of , that someone would type and that will take them to your video .  This happens because of different even engines read tags to find what people are searching for . 

  And , they pick those words , while the best web site web site , or video , or whatever , that matches more , with what the person wrote . 

  In some cases , you can add some words that are not directly related to the content .  For example, in {oo*es} see video ons , we also add easy , Marisol , Miranda beings Norm Coombs , because maybe the person can't recall the video could 's title , but it can recall that it came from easy and maybe they type that and that will take them to our productions . 

  It's also here , where you have to decide , with whom are you going to share the video .  With the world , or are you going to keep it private ?  Or you'll have , you'll also have to allow , you can also allow or deny users . 

  And , you can decide if they are going to make comments or rate the video and things like that

  After the video is up loaded into YouTube , you'll get to this web page , where you can see the URL and the Code to let video , that are the two options that YouTube has . 

  Okay .  The first one , the URL , well, it's a simple URL , is a web page that you can type , copy , and paste in any e-mail or whatever .  But , what's embedded ? 

  In this case , the Code is there for someone who wantto put the video in his or her web page , but wants to take not just the URL , he wantto take everything to its web page .  He wants to take our video , with the YouTube player . 

  For on doing this , he {e} just has to , has to copy the embedded code and paste it into the H T M L code of his web page .  So the thumbnail of the video and the player will be seen in the browser view . 

  Okay .  Now , we , if we were here , we will have to go to my videos , and you can find that , link , under your , well, next to your user name , you have an arrow , and many will be displayed there for you , to go your videos . 

  Okay .  And this is where you will get , this is a place where you will see all the thumbnails of your productions .  And you can see also the titles of each one of them , and some of the settings that you added in the form .  We have here , different buttons , play , Ed {sdit} , annotations , captions , audio , tea {leet} and down on load on .  These are some things that we can play with .  Or {e} edit our video with . 

  I'm not going to talk about all of them this time .  I'm just going to talk about captions .  But first , I don't know if you know , that every person that up loads a video into YouTube becomes owner of channel .  And this allows us to have all these different kinds of buttons .  If you are not owner of the video , you can't edit anything .  You can just see it . 

  Okay .  The caption option , is the most amazing one that I've seen lately .  Well, in my life on .  This guy from Google , the Google audio team in YouTube have built something that is called the speech to text technology .  And that's what I'm present what I'm going to present here right now . 

  You click on on the thumbnail that you want to add the captiontoo .  Okay .  And you you will have to click on the , well, you will be taken here .  Sorry .  {rav} Paragraph

  And for captioning the video , we have two options .  The one that I have here , highlighted in green , that says caption file on includes time codes , that's not the one we're working on today . 

  And the other one , that it is the one that we're working on , it says , transcript file , English only , and is beta version and it works really well . 

  Okay .  We would have to select that option , and the only thing we have to have , of already prepared is a transcript .  A transcript is the text from the presentation of everything that is said in the video . 

  Okay .  So , having the transcript that is here , as you can see , it has no format , doesn't matter what kind on of {fonlt} it has .  The colors {wonlt} mind .  You don't need to do anything there . 

  Okay .  You have to click on browse to up load it into YouTube 's web site .  And you have to select the language the transcription is written .  And in this case , the only option is English .  So , that's all . 

  You click up load on , and in a few minutes you will have your transcript , sorry , your captions done .  We're waiting for this light .  Okay . 

  Here , you you what YouTube has done to your transcript .  You can see the transcript here , as I told you you , it has no format , no time codes , nothing . What YouTube did , is that after uploading the transcript , he added the start , you know , start time for the caption to start appearing , and added also the end , how , at what time or in which second it is going to be stopped . 

  And it chop cand , I don't know how to say it , it split all our transcript into small pieces , and make them merge with , well, the thing , it's not , now they are synchronized with the player .  So when you play your video , you are {sging} to see your trans {scipingts}So transcription in there .  So now you have a captioned video . 

  Isn't this amazing ?  This is incredible . 

  Yes , if you would own the video or , get , again , can the time code be edited , updated in YouTube ?  Not in YouTube 's web site .  But you can download on and edit it , in case you find any kind of mistake or misspelled word . 

  Yes , you can do that . 

  Now , to make them synchronized perfectly is a a a little tricky .  But here the way to do it . 

  As you can see in the screen shot that you have below , you can see the audio track there .  And the audio track is finishing before the video .  Okay .  This won't work well .  So , how it works well, is what I have above . 

  You have to make the audio file and the video file finish at the same time .  Okay .  Let me look for the questions here .  The captions are not working for us . 

  Can the time code be edited , updated in YouTube ?  Yes .  The same way , you can download it and edit the captions and up your transcription file again . 

  For this , you are going to see that we up loaded , this is important , I up loaded a T XT file , your transcript must be a T XT file .  But when you download it with the time codes in it , it's going to be an S B V file .  Let's see .  S B V .  the that's going to be the extension of the file .  So you can do all the the additions that you want and it will up load {fer} {fekt} ly .  You have to open it with note pad .  Okay .  That's important too . 

  Okay can .  Here are some of the characteristics of YouTube can captions .  Because they're synchronized on their web site , but they are two different files , they never mergenot it's not a new production , as it would be in cam {taish} {sha} . 

  videos can be transcribed in different languages .  Okay .  This is very, very very good thing .  And why is this ? 

  Because , for me , Japanese would be the same thing that sign language , but for those didn't post videos in sign language {rk} they can do it now , because they can also have them transcribed and we will have access to them . 

  Okay .  The transcript can be downloadd just by owners , and not by viewers , and captions are machine made .  They are auto captions .  No one is behind this .  It's a technology . 

  Okay .  What's the difference when we do the captions in Camtasia for example ? 

 If I up load a video that I captioned in Camtasia , the captions are produced with the video .  So beings if I up load this video to YouTube beings I wouldn't be able to translate it .  Well, I would be able to translate it , but the captions are going to be overlay , so it's going to be a nightmare . 

  So , for now , I think that , the best way of doing it is uploading your video just the way it is , and transcribe it this way .

  Below the video , you have comments of different people that might be annoying sometimes , plus some advertisements , so this can be a more for someone using a screen reader , or any {fi} indication software {oor} somebody with difficulties abilities .

  So here , I have two options . 

  The first one , is tube majestic Dot net .  Well, I'm going to go to this web site here , into the P C browser , and please let me knee if you have difficulties looking at it .

  What I like on of this search engine is that it only displays the thumb nails with tight tellsIt titles , it gets rid of all the other information that's around the results .

 That's why , at the beginning , I told you that the title of your video should be meaningful , because it's going to be read by the screen reader . 

  Yes , oh, yes , you , I can put it right there , or if you want , you're going to have it in the resources web page .  All the things that I'm going to show you here , you'll have the links there .

  I'm going to select the first thumbnail .  It might take a while to load .  Because we are 50 people here .  So , what , well, what I'm trying to show you you is , how the player works .  It , say , no , please , say no .  It has large buttons , and for people with low vision , it's wonderful . 

  It has something I don't like , it doesn't read captions .  But if the video is in your language , I think this is a a very, very {e} helpful tool . 

  It's also keyboard {na*v} cab .  And I try to do it with jaws and it worked fine .

  Now , we are going to see the other one .  It's very similar to this one , but this one has the player next to the , to where the results are displayed . 

  Here , I'm going to search for houses .  You can see the results are very similar .  If I click here on , well, I'm not going to do it .  But if I click in the thumbnail , of course , you will see it playing here , in the YouTube player .  And you can enlarge the screen as much as you want to .  You can make it small , medium or large .  It's also keyboard {na*v} cab and is also operable , sorry .  And it's , also screen reader accessible . 

  And the player buttons are write here and they are also large and colorful .

 Here , the only main difference between this player and the other one is that , when you are looking , watching the video here , the YouTube address is displayed above .  So if you want to save it , you can do it .  Or if you have a , already one that you want to see , you can paste it in there and load it directly from YouTube .

  And why we can see that it is meaningful to caption all the videos in YouTube , because , if we have 23 hours of video that are up loaded to YouTube , per minute , what we are doing is that , we are opening the gap that was starting to be closed when we use our own material for teaching or for , you know , our material was accessible .  Now , the new material that is being created with all these video ons that YouTube has for us , it's creating an accessible content .

  The content must be understandable , visually and audibly , in order to make them accessible for those with visual impairments and those who are deaf .

  Easy , as Marisol was showing us , started a channel called YouAbility , and if any of you have some short videos you'd like us to add to our channel , let us know , because we're , we want to make it a center for all kinds of things on disability related , and information technology . 

  We see it as having two focuses .  Or if you want to be very correct in your language , I suppose two F O C I . 

  But , anyhow , one will be on helping people what what are disabilities , and showing what people with disabilities can do and achieve .  Make them aware of disabilities and make them aware that people with disabilities can function well in society . 

  The other thing that we really want to focus on is short video clips that are all about how to , how to do this , how to do that . 

  So how to make different things more accessible . 

  For example, you can do a short one on how to add an all text tag to an image in a word document .  A little vignettes on how to as well as things they like to focus on .  So it will be a place where people can go to to learn things they would like to do .
