Key Findings for Discussion

• Perceptions are key in a number of ways:
• Only 28% think society expects PwDs to work,
• Key barriers to work are employer perceptions of PwDs and the legal environment.
• Of the 1969 people who responded that they "have a disability," 1 out of 5 do not consider themselves "disabled."
• Complicated work/benefit relationship is evident.
• Despite differences, a majority of F/F/P/V and nearly 3 out of 4 PwDs say it is more important to have a job and be independent than a safety net of benefits.
• However, potential loss of benefits is a major barrier to entering the workforce for F/F/P/V.
