• Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments (1998/2000)
• Legally binding for federal agencies only
• Adopted as de facto standard by many institutions
• Similar to (old) WCAG 1.0, Level A
• expected to be "refreshed" soon; technical requirement then similar to WCAG 2.0, Level AA
