Create an Underline Style!

• Using Ctrl + U applies direct formatting to selected text.
• Create an Underline Style instead.
• Once you use the Underline Style you'll see the Bold button depressed.
• Because it is part of the Style it is not direct formatting.
• Can then make the Underline Style a single underline, double underline, underline only the words and make it a different colour.
• Press Alt + H, F, Y to open the Styles Pane.
